  • Global Game Jam: The Global Game Jam (GGJ) is the world’s largest game jam event taking place around the world at physical locations.

  • NeuroGame Jam: 3-day game jam exclusive to brain-controlled games. NeuroGame Jam is held at the University of New Mexico’s Mesa del Sol facility where brain-control interfaces are available for teams to use, but can also be participated in remotely.
  • 7DRL- 7 Day Rogue-Like: Encourages jammers to make a rogue-like in 7 days at any time of the year, but runs a 7DRL ‘Challenge’ in late-February or early-March. Began in 2005.
  • Train Jam: organized by @msminotaur, Train Jam occurs on a train traveling from Chicago, IL to San Francisco, CA on the way to GDC. Participants will have 52 hours to form teams, conceptualize an idea, and create a game – or stare out a window.
  • BaconGameJam – (Previously Reddit Game Jam): The BaconGameJam hosts game jams as part of the wonderful Reddit community. Anybody can participate, experienced or newbie, flash developer or C hacker. There is nothing to win except for fame, comments and of course karma.
  • NanoRenNo: Visual novel game jam occurring on March 1st. Most participants use the wonderful Ren’Py visual novel framework.
  • Cyberpunk Jam: Cyberpunk Jam is a week-long jam based on everything cyberpunk as portrayed in movies and books like Tron, Blade Runner, and Neuromancer. A more specific theme is given by popular vote based on one of 6-7 pictures on the main website.

  • Ludum Dare: Begun in 2002, Ludum Dare (Luh-dum Daw-ray) is a 48-hour game jam that occurs three times a year: April, August, and December. It is one of the most widely participated-in game jams.
  • Game Dev/Stack Exchange Game Jam: Coming from the Stack Exchange network of programming sites, GDSE Game Jam is a weekend game jam whose jammers must open source their games to participate.
  • Insanity Jam: A weekend game jam where participants receive their game theme from orteil42 (creator of Cookie Clicker)’s random game idea generator. This Jam aims to be inclusive, welcoming game creators anywhere in the world of all skill levels, from newbies to professionals.
  • gm(48): A game jam/competition with a focus on using YoYo Games’ GameMaker:Studio. Occurs in the Reddit community.

  • Public Domain Jam: A week-long game jam where jammers make a game based on books/stories/art in the public domain. Books like Moby Dick, Sherlock Holmes, and Peter Pan are examples of works in the public domain.

  • Molyjam: What Would Molydeux, affectionately referred to as “Molyjam,” is a 48 hour game jam inspired by the works of @petermolydeux, a loving parody of the legendary Game Designer, Peter Molyneux. It started in 2012 with a tweet.

  • Ludum Dare: Begun in 2002, Ludum Dare (Luh-dum Daw-ray) is a 48-hour game jam that occurs three times a year: April, August, and December. It is one of the most widely participated-in game jams.
  • 7DFPS – 7 Day First Person Shooter: 7DFPS is a 7-day game jam with the goal to ‘keep first person shooters interesting.’ The site also runs a mini-jam called 7HFPS as a warm-up before the week-long event.

  • GitHub Game-Off: Begun in 2012, GitHub Game-Off restricts it’s focus to web-based games. Former prizes for top-voted games have included an iPad Air and Git-Hub Store credit.
  • GameBoy Jam: a week-long jam where developers build games based around the theme of GameBoy.
  • Charity Game Jam: Occurring in semi-conjunction with LD48, Charity Game Jam raises money for a charity of your choosing by embedding the charity-button button.

  • Holiday Jam: It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Holiday Game Jam invites game developers to create games that celebrate the optimism, thankfulness, and love of the holiday season.
  • GAME JOLT New Year’s Jam: Held in the days leading up to the new year, New Year’s Jam is a 48-hour game jam held in the Game Jolt forums. (Pretty sure the theme is open, but not 100%)
